Are you a Carer?
Do you help or support a relative or child who, because of some illness, or maybe a disability or addiction or even just because of fraility due to age?
Then you are a very special, wonderful person. You are, to give you a title – A CARER.
That special person that you are looking after of course, could also be a neighbour of a good friend. Whatever, you most likely do this without being paid for what you do. Many hundreds of thousands of individuals depend on people to just care for them. In days gone by, extended families did the job – it was part of what being a family was all about.
Society today as we know is so very different yet it is full of amazing people who do act as somebody’s CARER. Sadly the majority of people who are Carers just ‘soldier on’ oblivious to what help is available to support both the person they are caring for and also themselves. They may just want it that way; coping and getting on with it in their own way.
However, there are many Carers who themselves need support and help to carry on with the job they do. For far too long, these Carers have been marginalised, and often isolated. Information simply is not, or has not reached them that
“A CARER IS SOMEONE WHO WITHOUT PAYMENT, HELPS OR SUPPORTS A RELATIVE, CHILD, NEIGHBOUR OR FRIEND WHO BECAUSE OF ILLNESS, DISABILITY, FRAILTY OR ADDICTION IS UNABLE TO MANAGE ALONE”.

The Lymm and District Carers’ Group
We get together every TUESDAY at the Lymm and District Youth and Community Centre in Lymm Village, along side the canal. This is very welcoming group which could provide you with support and friendship as well as the assistance of our Carer Support Worker. The group organises many events and activities and welcomes many visitors through out the year. We have a choir – nothing posh – we just love to sing!
We also have an instructor who teaches us Tai Chi – some of us are better at it than others but it’s great fun nevertheless!
If you just want someone to chat with or even just to see a friendly face, join us for a cuppa an y Tuesday morning between 10am and 12.30pm.
